Why Patients Choose IMP

The work of the International Mesothelioma Program (IMP) begins and ends with patients. Those who come to the IMP have heard physicians at home say things like “you have six months to live” or “there’s not much we can do” or “go home and love your grandchildren.”

After these words, patients and families most often ask their caregivers and their circle of friends and family about options and they do detailed internet research.

Ultimately, patients choose the IMP because they’ve done their homework and they don’t hear those dire words here.

At the IMP, we believe there is something that can be done. In most cases the IMP’s sophisticated combination of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, rehabilitation and post-acute care, and supportive services has improved patients’ survival statistics and their quality of life.

statueThere’s something to be said for experience as well. Few hospitals treat a significant number of mesothelioma patients; few have gathered enough collective experience to translate that into the expertise needed for clinical excellence and research breakthroughs.

Patients and their families come from across the United States and around the world seeking the expertise of our scientists, the caring and compassion of our clinical and support staff, and access to the latest innovations in treatment.
